Even my most courageous clients — including those from the coldest corners of the globe — feel the chill during winter photoshoots in Paris.

And when you’re cold, it’s hard to relax into the experience and truly enjoy your shoot in the way I’d love for you to.

So here are a few ideas to help you stay warm, comfortable, and stylish all at once.

Dress appropriately (and chicly).

Take Krystyna on her “short n’ sweet” shoot: stylish jeans, boots, and her gorgeous, fluffy jackets were the perfect combination of practical and polished.

Layer with intention.

Long sleeves, faux-fur wraps, bomber jackets, capes, and textured outerwear not only keep you warm — they add depth, movement, and elegance to your images.

Work with the weather, not against it.

January and February are often overcast and rainy in Paris. A classic black or clear umbrella makes perfect sense if it’s been raining — and it adds beautifully to the visual story rather than distracting from it.

Add a pop of colour on grey days.

On flat, wintry days, a splash of colour can make an image really sing. Think bright scarves, bold lips, or a colourful beret for extra Parisian charm. Once you hit the streets, you’ll find plenty of boutiques offering both in every colour imaginable.

Props: yes… but thoughtfully.

Balloons can be fun, but wind often turns them into more of a hindrance than a help. A lovely bunch of winter flowers is a wonderful alternative. My local florist currently has stunning bright red and white anemones — and I’d be more than happy to organise fresh flowers for you as props for your shoot.

Studio wardrobe tip (VIP clients).

If you’ve booked my VIP package and chosen a piece from the studio wardrobe, the puffy tulle mega-skirts are ideal in winter. You can easily wear thick, warm tights underneath and no one will ever know — except you, feeling cosy and confident.
